Sweet & Savory Brunch Burgers

Cook: 15 minutes • Serves: 4

6 ounces ground pork breakfast sausage
4 (1/2 pound) burger patties
1 cup shredded smoked Gouda cheese
8 frozen round waffles
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup bacon jam
4 butter lettuce leaves

1. Heat large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add sausage and cook 5 minutes or until browned, breaking up sausage with side of spoon; transfer to paper towel-lined plate.

2. Cook burgers until internal temperature reaches 145°, topping burgers with cheese during last 3 minutes of cooking; transfer burgers to plate.

3. Toast waffles as label directs. Drizzle tops of 4 waffles with 2 tablespoons maple syrup; top with burgers, bacon jam, sausage and lettuce. Drizzle 1 side of remaining 4 waffles with remaining 2 tablespoons maple syrup; place, syrup side down, over lettuce.
